Stemmons Business Corridor / Southwestern Medical District Area Plan

Project Overview

The Stemmons Corridor is one of the strategic growth areas in the City of Dallas, encompassing more than 5,000 businesses, over 100,000 jobs and producing one fourth of the taxes collected by the City of Dallas. The corridor includes the Southwestern Medical District, the Dallas Market Center, and the Old Trinity Industrial District. The proximity to the Trinity River Corridor along with all its planned recreational amenities, the burgeoning mixed used developments at the Dallas Victory complex, and the imminent prospect of a new DART light rail line serving the area as contribute to the rich opportunities for future development in this area. The area is also enriched by adjacent neighborhoods like Oak Lawn, Love Field West and Arlington Park.

Stemmons Business Corridor / Southwestern Medical District Area Plan

The forwardDallas! Comprehensive Plan calls for a strategic area planning program to provide a proactive, systematic and action-oriented mechanism for advancing desirable development in key areas of the city. The Stemmons Corridor is one among the three top priority areas on the work program of the Department of Development Services that have been short-listed for area plans.

Area Planning Focus

  • Provide broad-based opportunities for interactive public involvement in shaping the future of the area.
  • Develop a vision for future development in the area as a refinement of the forwardDallas! Vision.
  • Translate the future vision into clearly defined actions for implementation with an emphasis on zoning, transportation, infrastructure and economic development
  • Carry forward and coordinate implementation to achieve the future vision.
